Here are my EASY Short Summaries of The 67 Steps PDF. These short summaries were summarized by myself from Tai Lopez’s popular program “The 67 Steps”. These summaries are intended for my own study and educational purposes and to help other people in their study of the 67 steps.
These summaries will give you a big picture but in order to keep it short, they lack helpful examples that Tai provides. 1. Be Worth a Damn and Deserve it
To get what you want in life you have to be worth a damn and deserve it. Charlie Monger said that the world isn’t crazy enough yet to reward undeserving people. To increase your “Worth a Damn” factor you’ll need to add wisdom and remove ignorance. Wisdom is the application of knowledge. So you have to inject knowledge into your mind and then you have to learn when and how to apply that knowledge. Reading is a great way to inject knowledge into your mind. It’s also a great way to learn from other people’s experiences and gain their insights and wisdom. Also, gain wisdom through your own experiences by putting your knowledge into action. Start doing and make mistakes along the way.
To deserve it, you’ll need to continually push yourself out of your comfort zone, persevere, grind it out, and put in your time to dedicate yourself in becoming an expert in whatever your interest is.
2. ADAPT
An extremely important human principle is to adapt. Our bodies are always adapting to outside stimuli. If you can’t adapt to situations in life and in business, then you won’t survive. In order to adapt you must understand that not everything is black and white. There are always different point of views and opinions which aren’t 100% right all the time in all circumstances. If you can keep asking yourself the question why, and force yourself to look at things differently then the better you will be equipped to make changes when you need to.
3. Have Humility
There are two types of humility, inward humility and outward humility. It’s good to have both but if you were to pick one it’s better to have inward humility. Many of us have outward humility. We are always quick to verbally say that we’re humble and that “I’m not good at that” however we never take action to change because we are too afraid of possibly failing and hurting or egos. In a way, you are not teachable. Michael Jordan was outwardly cocky but he had great inward humility. His coaches would say that Michael Jordan’s best skill was that he was teachable. Michael Jordan wasn’t afraid to seek out the expertise he needed from mentors and coaches or to be critiqued on what he needed to do better. Don’t be afraid to look like an idiot.
4. Find a Mentor & the Law of 33%
The law of 33% states that we should spend one third of our time with people who are above us (our mentors), one third of our time with people who are our peers and same level (our friends), and one third of the time with people who are below us. A mentor is extremely helpful because they impart the wisdom they have learned.
5. Observe & Look for Patterns in People
Build a habit to observe other people and look for the patterns in their lives that attribute to their successes and failures. If you have successful friends, look for their habits that they have. Copy those habits and put them into practice. If you have unsuccessful friends, look for their habits that attribute to their failures. Ask yourself if you have those same habits, if you do, get rid of them.
6. Focus on the Sculpture & Beware the Media Bias
Have your goals and vision in your head and slowly chip away every day towards that goal and vision. It’s better to slowly build something day by day, then to try and build something overnight. Most of the time the item that is built overnight fails. Don’t let the media persuades you into thinking that it’s going to be easy or that other people had overnight success. Very rarely does the media tell the whole story to that person success and so you get a tainted view making you think that success is easy when it’s not.
7. Avoid Learned helplessness
Martin Seligman’s book “Learned Optimism” states that we as humans can be conditioned to be imprisoned in a state of mind where we think we are helpless when we are in reality not. To illustrate this point, if you have an elephant tied to a rope long enough, and you remove that rope, the elephant will still only travel however long the rope allowed it to travel. We need to understand that obstacles in life condition us to become helpless. Once we are aware of this and can identify, it’s easier to break through those obstacles and barriers. Start breaking your habit of learned helplessness.
8. Integrate Your Life Together
The more your life is integrated, the happier you will be. Some examples of being disconnected and not integrated are: You have to drive 30 minutes to work, drive 20 minutes to the gym , the church that you go to is 30 minutes away, the grocery store you go to is 15 minutes away. If your life is too segmented, you’ll be adding a lot of unnecessary stress to your life. Some possible solutions are: to move closer to work and everything else, find a different job, and work out at home. There is a theory called Edge Biological Theory which gives support to this idea of integrating your life. In nature, you will see the most life around the edge where two or more ecosystems intersect. For example, the tree line between the lake and forest where they intersect will have the most life. Try to make your life as interconnected as possible.
9. Learn Faster by Reading other’s Experiences
It’s great to learn by experimenting and gaining experience through your own actions. However, gaining some experiences can be extremely costly in both time and money. As humans, we can simulate and learn through other people’s experiences. A great way simulate experience is to read books and biographies on certain people that have accomplished the things that you want to accomplish too.
10. Toughen Yourself Up
Our society nowadays is lazy, they look for a pill to solve their problems, and are always seeking pleasure. This behavior makes civilizations weak. When things become tough in life for them, they’ll begin to buckle because they are not tough as they should be. Don’t live in a world of instant gratification. Tough people are disciplined people and can combat their human impulses that may be destructive to them. Some small ways to become tougher is: take a cold shower, eat vegetables that you hate, sleep on the floor, and do something outside your comfort zone (like getting rejected by somebody).
11. Don’t Trust your Impulses
Humans are hardwired with certain impulses into their DNA. We need to know and identify which impulses to look out for and then we need to set ourselves up into the best situation where we won’t give into that impulse. For example, if you have a weakness for sweet things at the grocery store, plan a detour around that section so that you won’t see the items and be tempted. Also, don’t go to the grocery store on an empty stomach. Your stomach will do most of the deciding than your brain.
12. Find your Eularian Destiny
Peter Drucker states, “Most people think they know what they’re good at, but they are usually wrong.” In order to find your destiny. To do this, crystalize what you want to do in life into one sentence. This will be your one sentence destiny plan. This sentence should be simple enough where it makes sense to everyone of all ages. Build around your real skills and “signature strengths” – be real and honest with yourself – avoid the American Idol Syndrome where you think you’re good but you really aren’t. Ask yourself – what did you grow up around and experience? What kinds of feedback have you heard from strangers? What do you love talking about? What have you been doing the last 10 years of your life? What do you excel at? Is this something that you can potentially master and be in the top 5% of your field?
13. Don’t Follow Your Passion
Don’t pursue your passion because passion eventually fades away. Passion is not a plan, it is a feeling. And feelings change. You could be passionate about a person or a job one day and not passionate the next day. You can’t follow your passion, because your passion follows you. Many people get passion and lust mixed up. There is a big pressure behind the idea of following your passion. It’s intimidating because you feel like you’re picking a major for life. The creator of the comic Dilbert Scott Adams said that “Success fuels passion more than passion fuels success.”
14. Prepare for Everything Because it is Your Fault
Get into more of the mindset that everything is your fault. This will make you more responsible and take you out of the mindset of being a victim. If you possess the habit of being a victim, then you can’t have any control over your life because everything that happens in it is the result of some outside influence – In a sense, other people have control over your life. Ask yourself if there was anything that you could have done to prevent the thing from happening? Were you not prepared? Did you not anticipate? For example, if someone crashes their car into you. Yes, it’s their fault legally, but were you driving defensibly or were you not paying attention to your surroundings?
15. Calculate & Quantify Big Decisions
When you have big decisions to make in life and you are having a hard time deciding, sometimes the best way to decide is weighing out all the possibilities. Break down your decision into all the different possible scenarios. Make a pros and cons list and weight them on importance. If it’s still a tie, ask people with wisdom their advice on the matter, they will bring insight that you haven’t thought of yet. I have found that most times the worst decision is no decision… HOWEVER, sometimes the best decision is a delayed decision. You’ll have to know when to use it.
16. Become a Well Rounded Person
Read and learn broadly from all sorts of different subjects. You’ll become more interesting as a person because you’ll be able to relate to other people and their interests more. You’ll be able to apply areas you’ve learned in a different subject to your work related area. Also, reading broadly will give you a wider view of how things work in general and this is absolutely key to managing people and systems.
17. Put Your Time in
We live in the pill society where we want a quick solution. If you desire a goal, you need to put your time into that goal. Look at other people who have impacted the world and observe how much they dedicate their time to that specific field. You must dedicate and sacrifice your time and the sacrifice is not the 8 hour work day.
18. How to Keep Things Easy by Using Contrast
When something seems really difficult to accomplish, use the Contrasting. Contrasting is when you take an extremely difficult accomplishment like the Moon Landing and compare/ contrast it to your project that you’re working on. By contrasting, your project won’t seem as difficult anymore. It really is a great tool to motivate you and to place things in perspective.
19. Always Reinvest in your Learning
Spend 33% of your left over income on education, books, and seminars, to invest back into your learning. Be frivolous about it, buy used books or download free information on the internet via torrents.
20. Re-Engineer your Life
If you had unlimited resources, how would you change your world? Are you currently building a life you want to be around? Look at the overall pictures and goals and desires that you have and start by making small changes to migrate your goals.
21. Anticipate and Type people
Learning how to interact with different people is an extremely important skill to possess. In order to do so, you must read people correctly and anticipate what they are about, so you can effectively communicate with them. Tai uses the P.A.S.E system to type people.
22. Always Be Experimenting
To achieve your goals, you must ALWAYS BE EXPERIMENTING in all aspects of life. It starts with the seven step scientific method: ask yourself a question, research the answer, create a guess, test it, make an observation (did it work or not?), analyze it, and conclude and get other people’s opinions. If everything you do is an experiment, you can’t really fail. Say to yourself “I’m just experimenting, and that way didn’t work out, so I’ll try a different way”.
23. Build Stronger Faith and Weather out the Storms
Eventually in life, you’re going to have many obstacles that come in your way. Envision and feel yourself making it through these obstacles by imagining you getting through it. Try to anticipate these obstacles the best that you can. Place yourself in hypothetical dramas where you imagine yourself working through your problem. The imagination is a great tool to build your faith and confidence.
24. The Funeral Test & Determine Your End Game
How do you want your funeral to look like? Do you think a lot of people would show up because you made an impact on their lives somehow? Did you accomplish what you wanted to? Decide what your end goal in life is. What’s your main purpose? Don’t get caught in the details with busywork because you won’t see your overall big picture.
25. Remember that Nature Laughs Last
Don’t become frustrated over things you can’t control. Be patient, give things time. You can’t rush nature or physics and you can’t rush businesses and relationships. Nature has different seasons for preparing and work and so do people. Be aware of the forces of nature. Don’t take yourself too seriously, because in the end nature will have the last laugh.
26. Minimize Mistakes by Building Backup Systems
Building backup systems minimizes the effect of your mistakes. If you make a mistake and fall off your wire, hopefully you have a backup system, like a net, to catch you. You’ll find that many times in life, you will fall from a mistake and depending if you have a backup system in place will determine how far it sets you back in life.
27. Create a Support Group and Become Allies
Create good allies and support groups for yourself. When looking to build allies, look for integrity, loyalty and if they are complementary to your skills meaning that you both offer different things but when you are together you create a good team. Also look at references and testimonials.
28. Do What is Difficult When it’s Easy
Do not procrastinate especially in preparing. Do what is difficult when it is easy. If you procrastinate getting health insurance and become sick, then you will have to bite the bullet paying off huge medical bills. It would’ve been easier if you were to not procrastinate. Build a habit of jumping into things and realize that not everything needs to be researched and thought out. Use your best judgment.
29. Fight Entropy
Entropy is the state of disorder. When you clean your room, you are fighting entropy because entropy wants to make it messy again. You must fight entropy in all parts of your life: health wealth love and happiness. If you don’t decide to put energy into things, then they will start to decay.
30. Remove Your Ignorances
We make up certain beliefs about things that aren’t necessarily true. We do this because we look to make sense of things we don’t understand which in turn usually simplifies a complex subject that shouldn’t be simplified. Also, you’re belief isn’t true in all cases – such as “All Pit bulls are mean”. You must always challenge what you believe and what your motives are for those beliefs. Maybe you think something is stupid, when actually you’re really jealous of that person or item. Are you protecting your ego? Are you going following the band wagon? 50 years ago, there was a lot of racism due to ignorance. Eliminate these ignorances that handicap your judgement!
